CAN GOD ABANDON US?

It was a beautiful morning in a small neighborhood in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. The sun was shining in all its splendor.

Children of different ages had been gathered, in a wooden cottage, surrounded by mountains and trees. On that day in particular all the children were happy and focused making gifts for Mother’s Day: bracelets with colored threads.

Santiago, 6 years old, suddenly asked: – What were the last words that Jesus said on the cross? – The adult replied- “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

But Santiago said: – No, those weren’t his last words. His last words were: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

-How do you know it?

– I saw a movie about the life of Jesus.

So, why did this 6-year-old boy keep the memory of these words of Jesus on the Cross: “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

THE SENSE OF ABANDONMENT

Perhaps you have also felt abandoned before? For example, when parents or children leave the home, when a relative dies, when no one wants to talk to us.

We can also think that God has abandoned us.

King David had already written, in Psalm 22, the same words of anguish Jesus said: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Our Lord Jesus, the one and only Son of God, also felt that way when he was bearing the sins and shedding his blood. People laughed at Him by insulting Him. But his greatest suffering was being separated from his Heavenly Father because there is no place for sins in the Kingdom of God. Yes, Jesus took all of our sins.

LOVE IS FAITHFUL

But Satan, the devil, the power of darkness, could not win because Jesus never committed a sin.

And Jesus is risen! He didn’t stay dead! He returned to the Kingdom of God. He washed our sins! He is our Justice. What a victory! Hallelujah!

Moses said to Joshua: The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.Deuteronomy 31:8

Let us also remember the words of Jesus: “…surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Mathew 28:20

In His Love, Laura
